Telstra Next G

I have been using Telstra Next G since October 2006 and I can honestly say that nothing has so fundamentally changed my life(style) this much since the advent of the Internet itself.

The freedom that I now enjoy includes maintaining web sites for my clients from almost anywhere in Australia using my fast Next G enabled notebook, uploading edited video as part of my commercial production and pro-blogging off my iPhone - transmitting photos, video and position updates to this site and Facebook. Staying in touch with friends and collegues while out and about, while keeping in touch with mum is easy.

In 2010, I upgraded from a Netcomm WIFI hotspot that accept 3G cards to the Telstra Elite mobile WIFI. It tiny, and provides up to 5 devices with internet access through a central 3G data account. It runs for up to 4 hours on battery and is recharged by Micro USB 2 cable. It also has an external antenna adapter. Using the external 2m antenna is something that I only have to do occassionally, as the superior coverage of Telstra is available most everywhere in Australia. Its performance should be outpaced by the Turbo version of their product, but I have not found the need to upgrade to the triple the price product. Its the need for constant-on communications with my Elite WIFI and iPhone 4S make it worth while putting up with their grandiose organisational structure and often-wrong billing system.
