My name is John Nayler and I live on my catamaran amongst the islands
of the Great Barrier Reef. Primarily based in the Whitsundays, my backyard
includes Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island, Hook, Whitsunday and the other
74 (odd) islands in the group. The Great Barrier Reef is my domain.
My life choice is to live in this wonderful place, share it with friends
and promote it part time through channelwhitsundays.com.
So passionate about the Whitsundays, I once gave my hand in marriage
in
exchange for another holiday here, marrying on Betty's Beach, immediately
North
of Whitehaven. It was Anzac Day... I should have sensed the significance.
:-)
My true love of the Great Barrier Reef was truly ignited a few years
ago by sailing my first catamaran from Brisbane to the Whitsundays.
The vessel was called "Queenslander!",
originally commissioned and owned by the late and very great Dick "Tosser" Turner.
Leaving Hervey Bay and Fraser behind, I visited Musgrave, Keppells,
Percies, Scawfell, Brampton and many others.
A Computer Science graduate, I am a Queenslander through and through,
having grown up in the Brisbane Western suburb of Inala, attended
both public and a private school, Ipswich Grammar, in fact.
My IT career and 10 years in Internet consulting underpins
a relaxed, connected lifestyle neatly dovetailing "cruising
sailor" and "Internet consultant".
My days are filled with friends and adventure.
Skills: Internet Consulting Serving a select clientele of tourism
businesses in the Whitsundays, I have developed some of the most informative
and
successful web sites
in segment. Meanwhile, ChannelWhtisunday.com has provided a sandbox
to develop a following, community function and promote the Whitsundays
in
my spare time.
Island Knowledge Over 10 years I have developed the knowledge
and technology contained within the Whitsundays most imformative online
cruising
resource
for Cumberland
Charter Yachts, Whitsundays.
channelwhitsundays.com Co-founded by Charles Sanhueza and I in
earily 2007, channelwhitsundays.com was born of the Whitsunday Coast
Airport
issue,
but has since become a well known
brand for online television
and marketing for the Whitsundays. There is a 2000+ following and
a range of free community function. All the technology, graphics and
inner
workings
were
developed
by me. In late 2007, we were awarded a "Directors award for encouragement" at the Queensland Tourism Awards.
Photography
Taking the time out to compose some great photos
is a wonderful way to enjoy the beauty amongst the islands - with friends
in tow we set out to capture wonderful memories.
Videography and Video Editing
In partnership with my friend Charles, a videography professional,
I have learnt the core skills in producing quality video. Our
channelwhitsundays.com is home to around 200 YouTube videos.
Ambassador As a frequent visitor to Airlie Beach,
I have been heavily involved in volunteer efforts from this base. In
2008, I
was part of the Whitsunday
Reef Festival committee providing a variety of support including an
innovative web
site which included online ticketing, videos, Google maps and more. Also during 2008,
I was voted onto the board of Tourism Whitsundays. channelwhitsundays.com is also the platform to support local
charity and not for profit organisations by covering their events.
Being a CouchSurfing.com host, I have
provided hospitality to people from around the world. You are welcome
to read the references they left for me.
Presentation skills
As the primary host of channelwhitsundays.com,
I have stood in front of the camera, interviewed and entertained for
the past 2 years.
All the very best, John Nayler
